WHAT WILL I LEARN?
The Master’s programme in philosophy brings students up to the latest developments in theoretical philosophy, practical philosophy, logic and philosophy of science. It also allows students to develop a specialisation within one of these areas.
WHICH CAREER OPPORTUNITIES DO I HAVE?
The study of philosophy, like the study of other subjects, such as mathematics or physics, does not directly lead to the entry into a specific profession. However the competence in argumentation, judgment formation and ethical orientation that are acquired during a study at the master’s level are much in demand in the contemporary labour market. Graduates are mainly active in the following areas: scientific and cultural management, ethical and political consultation, business consulting, information technology, environmental protection, adult education, publication, media, libraries and archives. Recipients of master’s degrees who aspire to careers in academe may undertake doctoral studies in philosophy.
WHY SALZBURG?
The study of philosophy, like the study of other subjects, such as mathematics, history or physics, does not directly lead to the entry into a specific profession. An exact definition of the typical subsequent career of a graduate in philosophy is therefore not possible. However past experience and the present situation indicate that graduates are mainly active in the following areas: scientific and cultural management, ethical and political consultation, business consulting, information technology, environmental protection, adult education, publication, media, libraries and archives. Recipients of Master’s degrees who aspire to careers in academe may undertake doctoral studies in philosophy.
