PhD Studium
Bei den drei englischsprachigen, internationalen und interdisziplinären PhD-Programmen erhalten die Studierenden eine umfassende praktische Ausbildung in der Grundlagenforschung und sind gleichzeitig in Projekte der Grundlagen- oder angewandten Forschung eingebunden. Neben der Forschungsarbeit stehen auch „transferable skills“ wie Bioethik, wissenschaftliches Schreiben und Präsentieren auf dem Lehrplan.

The PhD Study serves to train skills, contribute to the development of medical science through independet research, and in this way strives to promote future generations of research scientists in the area of medical and natural sciences.
The programs provide cutting-edge education in basic principles of human diseases and therapeutics. Research topics are based on various aspects of cardiac and vascular diseases, inflammation, cancer and stem cells. The education combines a stimulating learning and research environment integrating basic, applied and clinical sciences as well as a wide spectrum of state-of-the-art techniques. Graduates are prepared for doing research in an international environment and can look forward to a rewarding career.
The PhD Study has been accredited by ACQUIN and the Medical University of Graz has been awarded an ORPHEUS label in recognition of its excellence in PhD training and its compliance with the ORPHEUS/AMSE/WFME Standards for PhD education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences in Europe.

Goal and purpose of the PhD Program
The PhD Doctoral Program (in following abbreviated as PhD Program) serves to train the skills necessary to contribute to the development of the medical sciences through independent research and the achievement of new scientific findings, and in this way strives to promote future generations of research scientists in the field of medical and natural sciences.
The doctoral program, as a third cycle in the Bologna process, is both an education as well as a productive research activity. The students are both researchers at the beginning of their careers within the scope of the “European Charter for Researchers”.
Curriculum
The PhD program is both a form of education as well as a productive research activity. The curriculum focuses on a profound education qualifying students
- to conduct research independently in an area of medical science,
- to publish the results of their research in internationally recognized journals,
- to quickly and easily familiarize themselves with other areas of medical science using solid
- methodological principles
- to know the ethical guidelines for medical research (code of good practice).
